Somebody’s Getting Married Today

I’m going to a wedding tonight. I feel different from how I have in my previous stints as an engaged wedding guest, which I’m attributing to my wedding being only 50 days away.1

My wedding feels like it is going to happen any day now.  Getting ready to go to a wedding that is not mine should probably make my wedding feel farther away, right? Like all I have to do is put on a dress and show up and have a good time.  But I keep thinking, “it will be my wedding people are getting ready for in seven weeks.”  [Self-absorbed, I know.]

I’m also delighted that we have this super low-stress wedding to go to, close enough that we can drive in on the same day, full of people I love and miss and can’t wait to party with.  The next day I’m going to take Collin to my old hometown in New Jersey, and I have reserved the right to cry and be weird the entire time we are there, but hopefully I’ll glide over the weirdness and just enjoy it; take him to my favorite restaurant and show him where I got hit by a car and have him laugh at how small my high school is.  And then we’ll head home for a series of barbeques and the unofficial start of summer.

It’s going to be a fabulous weekend.

1I had to check The Knot to get that figure. I am quite relieved I am not yet at the stage where I know exactly how many days there are until my wedding. I hope I don’t get there until… oh… one week before my wedding.

  1. Man I totally feel you on the day-countdown thing. People at my office last year were asking me from about 2 months “how many days” and I was all like, “shit if i know!” I think in weeks when I think of my schedule, generally, and the wedding was no different. I feel like daily countdowns just make everything take longer anyway. :)

Sounds like a great weekend — have fun! Some of our friends got married the weekend before us last year and I definitely had that feeling of “us next,” but just had a blast — it’s easy to get wrapped up in someone else’s celebration and backburner your own once it’s happening. (And yes, I just used “backburner” as a verb.)

  2. Yay July brides! And have SO MUCH fun at the wedding tonight.

  3. My wedding is in 38 days, and yes I know the number off the top of my head. And yes in 8 days I am going to go into full blown panic mode if I’m not there already.

We are going away this weekend too. Not to a wedding, but a good friend/our wedding photographer’s 30th birthday celebration. His fiance rented a cabin the in woods and it’s going to be a crazy weekend.

Have fun! I have a feeling this is going to be one of the last weekends both of us can really relax before the wedding.

  4. I think it’s good that you’re going to a wedding so soon before yours – it will remind you that all the guests are just there to have fun and share in the joy….relieve the pressure on you a little bit!

  5. Fun! I totally know what you mean re: thinking about people getting ready for YOUR wedding. It’s strange. I have a few friends for whom our wedding will be the first they have been to. I am quite excited for them. Haha!
