Remembering Grammy

I’ve been staring at a blank post field for fifteen minutes.  My grandmother died yesterday.  And for once, I find myself at a loss for words.

I will say this:  losing family does not get any easier with practice.

  1. This just popped up in my inbox.

I’m so sorry, Robin. She’s a beautiful gal and it sounds like she is truly missed. Thoughts and prayers and all sorts of good vibes are being sent your way via Baltimore. <3

    • Thank you so much. After Collin met Grammy, he said, “Your grandmother is ADORABLE.” I repeated the compliment to her, and then she told everyone “Have you heard I am adorable?” Or she’d ask my aunt to do something for her, and my Aunt would ask why, and she’d answer, “Because I’m adorable.” She was.

  2. I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of your grandmother, Robin. You’re in my thoughts.

  3. What a dolly!!!!! A very beautiful lady!!!!!
It never gets easier because you love so deeply and the hole is always a hole that only time seems to take away the rawness around the edges. The good thing for you is that you are not alone through this and your hole can be filled with the love of those around you until it shrinks in size to live with easier.
we are so thinking of you and sending thoughts of strength and love to you, Robbie.
    Kisses and very tight hugs,
    Viki and Tom

  4. I’m so sorry to hear this, Robin! Your grandmother looks like a lovely lady from the photo above. My thoughts will be with you and yours during this hard time.

    • A note about that photo: it was taken at my sister’s rehearsal dinner. I TOTALLY forgot I had that big zit on my cheek because it was airbrushed out of Becky’s professional wedding photos. Regardless, I’m so grateful to have that photo because right before it was taken I had a really wonderful talk with Grammy, and because it was such a happy weekend for my family.

  5. I am so very sorry for your loss, Robin. I’m glad, at least, that you are surrounded by so many people who love you during this time. I’m sending you virtual hugs and tissues.

  6. It never gets better.

    I’m so sorry.

    Many many hugs xxx

  7. No, it doesn’t. You just take what small comforts you can, like the conversations you had, and the funny things said. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

I would love to hear more about her, if you ever feel like sharing. And I may have this wrong, but I love that she seems to be drinking a cocktail in that shot.

  8. I’m so sorry Robin. My thoughts and heart go out to you and your family. I recently lost my grandfather, so I know what you mean about it not getting any easier. She looks like an adorable woman and very important in your life.

  9. I’m so sorry for your loss, Robin. I’m going to have to hug my own adorable little grandmother extra hard next time I see her.

  10. Robin – it feels a bit inadequate to say but my heart goes out to you and your family. Your grandmother looks like a lovely person and you both seem so very happy together in that photo!

  11. Robin, I’m so, so sorry to hear of your grandma’s passing. It sounds cheesy to say, but grandparents really are such a treasure. It’s so awesome to spend time with them and get to know them when you’re not a kid anymore, but then that time never seems to be long enough. You and your family will be in my thoughts in the coming days and weeks.

    • Thank you for your sympathies. And it isn’t cheesy, just true. Grammy was my last surviving grandparent, actually my last surviving direct ancestor, and I cherished her even more for that link to my family history.

  12. So sorry for your loss, Robin…Doesn’t seem like there’s much to say….

  13. sorry for your loss, Robin. I saw on twitter what you wrote about the bourbon. she must have been quite a lady (reminds me of my husband’s grandma). you and your loved ones are in my thoughts!

  14. Your grandmother looks like a real character – she has such a fantastic sparkle in her eyes in that picture. I am so sorry for your loss.

  15. Ugh. That’s really really rough. So sorry. I have a Grammie myself who just turned 90 yesterday, and I dread the day I’ll feel the way you do now. Hugs to you in this sad time.

  16. I’m so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts.
